Zapatera Island

2 Days / 1 Night

To arrive at Zapatera Island we will take a three hour boat tour admiring the fascinating Isletas along the way. Zapatera Island is the second largest island in the Great Lake of Nicaragua, famous for its rich pre-Columbian history and archeological sites. This region used to be the meeting point and exchange place of many Indian tribes traveling throughout Central and South America.  On the way to Zapatera, we will stop at El Muerto Island, where the “Chorotegas” printed several interesting petro glyphs with different figures such as birds, monkeys, people, crosses and others. We will then arrive to a simple but clean and cozy Ecolodge run by locals, located in an indigenous sanctuary just in front of the beach.
