Domitila Wildlife Reserve

Located forty five minutes away from the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua, the Domitila Private Wildlife Reserve is dedicated to conserving the wildlife and flora of one of the last remaining remnants of dry tropical forest on the Pacific coast of Central America.

There is a high biodiversity of interesting flora and fauna, housing 125 species of tropical birds, 65 species of mammals and a significant number of reptiles, amphibians, insects and colorful butterflies. While the property within Domitila is predominantly tropical dry forest, there are other ecosystems represented including savannah, floodplain, estuary, and the lake-attracting many different wildlife species.

Facilities have been designed in order to offer low-impact ecotourism, scientific investigation and environmental education, as well as promoting sustainable development of communities around the reserve. Some of the activities within the reserve are: nature hikes, bird watching, night hikes for observation of nocturnal wild life, horseback riding, butterfly observation and expeditions to the surroundings.
