Town of Chinandega

The town of Chinandega is the capital for the region of its same name Chinandega. It is half an hour away from Corinto, the main port on the Pacific Ocean as well as the arrival destination for cruise ships.

The town of Chinandega (or Chinamitl-tacalt in Nahuatl language) is surrounded by a beautiful landscape of dormant and active volcanoes with extensive fertile farmland for the cultivation of sugarcane, peanuts, bananas, watermelon and other important crops for this region.

The entrance of the city is marked by a roundabout with a beautiful fountain and a well kept garden and statue honoring the love for labor. The town has four attractive and interesting churches but the main one is dedicated to Our Lady Santa Anta located in the center of the city by the Parque Central.

The city also has an interesting local museum with Pre-Columbian exhibition of the region. It is worth visiting the local market where locals get their everyday groceries.
