ORO Travel is proud to say that we have made a public commitment to improving the wellbeing of the ecosystems and communities in which we work. We have been working with the international conservation organization, the Rainforest Alliance, since 2008, and are an active affiliate of an international community of tour operators that have said “yes” to sustainability. This means that we are Verified as meeting Rainforest Alliance sustainable tourism requirements and have signed a legally binding agreement with the Rainforest Alliance, committing to:
• Encouraging our suppliers (the lodges, restaurants, and other businesses we work with in the destinations where we send our guests) to become verified or certified, either by the Rainforest Alliance or another third party program that is duly recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council
• Giving priority to certified or verified hotels and lodges in tour packages offered to international tourism wholesalers or travelers

Pascal Picot is the managing director of ORO Travel. After traveling to Central America, Pascal decided to work as a tour guide in Costa Rica. Later on he fell in love with Nicaragua. He decided that this was the place where he would like to live and work.
After starting to reconstruct a beautiful historic colonial house in the center of Granada, more and more friends from all over the world began calling too see if he could arrange trips for them to Nicaragua. In 1994 the request for tours from friends became so big that Pascal decided to start his own tour operator company here in Granada, Nicaragua.
17 years later,ORO Travel has become a well established and leading company in the country. Pascal is married to Sylvia and is the father of a family of three sons and enjoys every day in Nicaragua.
Rossana Garcia Lopez started working for ORO Travel in 1998. Rossana is in charge of productions as well as being a travel planner. She is from Granada and loves vigoron which Granada is famous for. She is married with one son who is 8 years old and in her free time she likes to spend time with him.
Maria Jose Espinoza is native from the city of Granada. Although she is only 26 years old, she has now a great responsibility on the financial aspect of the company, taking care and control of bills and payments. While studying at the technical school of Tourism and Hotel administration, she also worked at the ORO Travel offices.
After graduating she decided to take a job opportunity and stayed along with ORO Travel. She decided to continue her studies in Business Administration in the city capital of Managua and has just completed her degree. In her free time she likes to listen to music. Maria Jose’s favorite country sites are the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters of Corn Island and the wild biodiversity of the San Juan river.
As a single woman, Maria Jose lives together with her small family, mother and brother. She loves cooking herself her favorite dish “Gallo Pinto”, a famous Nicaraguan meal, a mix of fried beans, rice, onions and other secret ingredients.
Luis Adolfo Flores was born in the colonial city of Granada. He studied at the Public University of Nicaragua (UPONIC) where he received a degree in Engineering Computer System. After, Luis began working for ORO Travel (2005) and is in charge of the computer network as well as the reservation and operating systems.
During his time off he loves listening to music, read poetry and work with computers as his hobby. He loves Granada very much and says that he enjoys every minute living here. This might explain why his favorite typical dish is “Vigoron”, a very local meal from Granada made from pork rinds and boiled cassava topped with salad and served traditionally in banana leafs.
Jacqueline Auxiliadora Martinezwas born in the charming colonial city of Granada where she grew up. After graduating high school she immediately began to study English and computers, gaining enough knowledge to work in different work fields related to tourism. Jacqueline lived two years in Italy working and studying at the same time.
Her adventurous interests makes her travel through different regions of Nicaragua though she admits she feels something very special for the twin volcanic islands of Ometepe; she loves its humble people, nature, landscapes and above all the tranquility of the place.
Jacqueline is a very active woman that’s why in her free time she loves dancing all type of Latin American music, doing exercise, biking and get to know new places. She loves organizing and personalizing all different kind of tours to make the best of your trip.
Manuel was born in the tourist city of Granada. He is in charge of the accounting as well as the administrative process of ORO Travel's transport. Manuel is married with two daughters and loves to spend time with his family. In his free time he likes to listen to music, watch soccer and the Discovery Channel on t.v. and read interesting books.
His favorite food is 'Baho', a typical Nicaraguan dish, which is a mix of meat, green plantains, and yucca cooked in banana leaves and served with a cabbage and tomato salad made with vinegar and lemon juice.
Xochil is new at ORO Travel working in the area of Sales and Travel Planning. She is from the city of Jalapa, a valley surrounded by mountains and pine forests in the north of Nicaragua. She likes to travel and to get to know more about the history, culture and different regions of Nicaragua. She has had the opportunity to promote Nicaragua in France and Austria during her studies. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, playing volley ball, dancing, reading and learning languages.
Reanne is from Canada, she has been living in Nicaragua for more than two years. She is in charge of marketing and communications at ORO Travel. Reanne loves living in Nicaragua, especially in Granada. She likes Nicaraguan food, in particular Nacatamales and frito as well as fresh juice made from the different fruits in Nicaragua.
Ixcanil is new to our travel planning team. A recent graduate of Tourism Management, she brings enthusiasm and passion to ORO Travel. She is especially passionate about sustainability and environmental issues and enjoys being involved in ecological movements. She is a firm believer that a child’s education can change the ideology of our country.
Ixcanil is from Granada. She loves coffee especially the rich and delicious coffee produced in Nicaragua! One day Ixcanil dreams of opening her own coffee shop! She is also a vegetarian. Learning new languages is one of her favorite pastimes; she speaks Spanish and English and is learning French. She also loves to travel and getting to know new places. One day she hopes to visit Florence, Italy. In her free time she likes to go out with friends, dance, go to the movie and meet new people.
Kelvin is from Granada. He works in the financial aspect of the company, as an assistant in the department of bills and payments. He finds tourism interesting as it is a growing industry, and above all here in Nicaragua there are many interesting natural attractions. He is excited about his new position and to be a part of the ORO Travel family. In his free time he likes to listen to music, to go running and also to read.
Marcela is from Granada. She loves to get to know her country any chance she gets. She enjoys each natural, marvelous and well preserved place that Nicaragua has to offer. She is a happy and friendly person who is always willing to learn, which makes her a great asset to our team!
François comes from France and is the newest member of our travel planning team. Having worked for two years in a French Tour Operator, he now wants to encourage sustainable tourism in Nicaragua and promote all its unbelievable natural and cultural wealth. He already enjoys living in Granada for its lifestyle and the kindness of the Nicas.
Playing a lot of sports during his free time, he also loves adventures off the beaten path, discovering hidden treasures and meeting new people. One day, he plans to hike every volcano in our beautiful country!
Neviana was born and raised in the northeast of Bulgaria, near the Black Sea. In 1999 she moved to Germany and studied Spanish at the Saarland University. Later she worked for a tour operator specializing in Latin America. During several trips around Central America she found the natural beauties and colonial architecture of Nicaragua enchanting and decided to move to Granada in September this year.
Daysi is responsible for ORO Travel’s ground transportation. She works with our growing fleet of vehicles and dedicated drivers to organize transportation for each group. Daysi is a very organized person making her perfect for this job. In her free time Daysi plans to finish her studies in English and get to know more of Nicaragua’s attractions. She also likes to spend time with her friends and is a dog lover, having two of her own.
Julio Flores V. was born in the city capital of Managua in 1978. He studied at the Autonomous National University of Nicaragua where he received a degree in English as a second language. Then he became an English teacher for one year in high school.
At this time he discovered his passion for his country and began to travelled a lot. He began to accompany groups of biologists, foreign volunteers and US farmers for cattle development, translating Spanish into English and vice versa. Since 2002, Julio started in tourism as a professional Tour Guide sharing his passion of the culture, fauna, flora, and the fascinating history of Nicaragua to the visitors.
Now, Julio is the Head Tour Guide for ORO Travel since 2005, guiding individual and groups coming from the most renowned and demanding travel companies of the world. During his private time, he is dedicated to his family including a nine year old son. He also enjoys watching the newest movies, eating Pizza and doing some exercise.
Lou, a native from England, has dedicated her last ten years to work as a professional tour leader and guide in South and Central America. After traveling broadly throughout Latin America and living for eight years in Peru, she decided to settle down in cattle region of Chontales, Nicaragua.
Lou is absolutely a nature lover who also likes talking about the modern history of Latin American countries. Her kindness and care to the local Nicaraguan culture makes her a great companion traveler. Lou likes showing her customers how welcoming and friendly the Nicaraguan people are. What she loves about guiding is meeting local people, enjoying pleasant natural sites and exchanging experiences with travelers. At the end of each tour her greatest satisfaction is to hear from clients how wonderful and unforgettable their experiences were. Horseback riding is one of her favorite hobbies during her leisure time.
Mauricio, a native from the bustling city capital of Nicaragua, Managua, is one of ORO Travel’s experienced German speaking tour guides since 2005. In 1983, at the young age of twenty he traveled to the former German Democratic Republic where he took German classes and then began studying Agronomy Engineering in the city of Leipzig.
After returning to Nicaragua, Mauricio started working for local and international agricultural and environmental development agencies. Because of his vast knowledge and German language skill, he has worked as a professor at the Jesuit Central American University in Managua, UCA, one of the best universities of the country.
Mauricio is an authentic “Nica”, short for Nicaraguan, his great sense of humor and ability for guiding turn him into one of the most professional and reliable tour guides. He is so passionate about Nicaragua’s history and culture. During his free time he likes reading books, visiting friends, watching sports, but above all he likes spending time with his wife and children.
Ramon, a German speaking tour guide, born in Nicaragua, has been providing his professional services to ORO Travel since 2008. Without a doubt he has committed his life to continuously achieve university studies in order to widen his knowledge on different important fields.
Ramon acquired a degree on Philosophy at Friedrich Schiller University, Germany, in 1989. Afterwards he graduated from the Central American University, UCA, where he studied Law. He also took Law studies at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN). Ramon has demonstrated to be an excellent guide who enjoys transmitting the important aspects of the history and culture of Nicaragua as well as the exciting fauna and flora. His gentleness and attention to details definitely makes your traveling and experience go smooth. When Ramon is not guiding or studying, he is devoted to his family, reading books, watching movies or simply relaxing.
Roberto Darce, a professional Nicaraguan English speaking tour guide, spent part of his life in Bulgaria back in the 80’s, where he got a degree on Automation of Electricity Generation. Nine years ago he discovered his eagerness about guiding, which he has been doing uninterruptedly ever since.
Acknowledged as one of the pioneer Nicaraguan guides who has great talent in transmitting the remarkable cultural aspects of the country, he is absolutely an excellent ambassador of his homeland. Roberto Darce recognizes himself as a devoted history reader, a kind of self-thought economist and diver into Nicaraguan culture. To have the chance to learn new things and interact with people from other cultures, and above all to be able to bring in memorable experiences to his customers are his major goals.
Rodolfo Ortega was born in the colonial city of Granada where he spent most of his childhood. Then he moved with his family to the United States and studied at Glades Middle School and Miami Killian Senior High School, Miami, Florida.
Afterwards the love for his country made him return to his homeland where he found what he most likes doing most, guiding.
Rodolfo’s tourism experience began with ORO Travel, where he initiated working as a qualified travel planner. His energy and enthusiasm to show travelers his beautiful country made him to leave the computer behind and start professionally guiding through Nicaragua. Besides his passion for his country, Rodolfo loves cooking, reading and spending some time on the computer.
Jose Antonio Andino, affectionately called by his last name Andino, an English speaking tour guide has proved since the beginning of his guiding career, back in 1999, to be unquestionably born for this important job. He studied elementary school in Nicaragua but then moved to the United States where Andino finished his high school at Florida Central Academy, Orlando.
His thoughtfulness, patience, love and deep knowledge for his country turn him into an excellent travelling tour guide. Because of his many years of experience working as tour guide and interpreter on different tourism related fields, Andino has accumulated lots of interesting information about his country, which he enthusiastically loves sharing. The intensive Nicaraguan history, the fascinating wild life, the unlimited natural resources are just some of the wonders that Andino will happily point out to you.

Edgard, an English speaking tour guide, is a Nicaraguan native, born in the city capital of Managua. Graduated from the Engineering University (UNI), he started guiding in the year 2000. Edgard is deeply devoted to natural history and Nicaraguan social-political science.
He certainly wants to make sure his clients get the most of their travel vacations. He considers himself a happy, easygoing and friendly person who enjoys every moment of his job.
During his free time Edgard loves watching movies, listening to music, meeting with friends, but especially playing pool. Jorge Hernandez, born in the capital city of Managua, Nicaragua, has a degree in English Translation from the Jesuit Central American University (UCA). His many years of experience as an English speaking tour guide has converted him into a great reliable traveling guide with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm to share.
Jorge Hernandez’s passion is history, which he narrates with deep interest; above all he enjoys guiding travelers through Nicaragua, showing them the natural richness of the country.

He received an English as a second language degree at the National Autonomous Public University of Nicaragua (UNAN). Byron Ortega, a friendly and professional Nicaraguan English speaking tour guide, was born in the charming colonial city of Granada. He received a degree in Social Communication at the Jesuit Central American University (UCA) in Managua; in addition Byron took studies in Business and Hotel Tourist Administration in Granada.
His deep passion, enthusiasm and love for his country have been some of the main reasons for him to guide travelers through Nicaragua. While guiding Byron enjoys talking devotedly about Nicaragua’s history as well as its exciting culture; he is very thoughtful and kind making sure the trip goes smoothly.
In the last year he has also guided tours through Central America. Byron loves spending time with his friends talking about sports, watching movies, listening to music, reading interesting books and sometimes singing in karaoke bars.
An English speaking tour guide and born in the city of Granada, he studied “Tourism” in one of the local schools. He is currently studying his last year of Business Administration. Osman has discovered a passion for guiding and loves being outdoors exploring nature, talking to people and traveling around the country.

Born in Nicaragua, Alicia is a French Speaking tour guide, who graduated from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua where she received a degree on French Translation. Her ability to transmit the rich historical and cultural aspects of Nicaragua makes her one of the best ambassadors of her country.
